Car Classes and Performance

Every car has a performance class and numerical Performance Index. These provide a quick comparison of overall capability, but they do not tell you how well a vehicle will perform in every situation.

Two cars with a similar rating may behave very differently because of their weight, drivetrain, tires, power delivery and handling. A lower-class car that suits the road surface can be easier and faster to drive than a more powerful vehicle with the wrong setup.

When comparing cars, consider:

• Performance class and event restrictions.
• Road, dirt, snow or cross-country suitability.
• Acceleration and top speed.
• Braking and cornering stability.
• Drivetrain and available grip.
• Whether the car remains controllable with your chosen assists.

Choosing the Right Car

Start with the event requirements, then choose a car suited to the route. The fastest vehicle in your garage is not automatically the best option.

For Road Racing, prioritize predictable handling, braking and grip. Dirt and Cross Country events generally benefit from suitable tires, usable suspension travel and a stable drivetrain. Speed Traps favor acceleration and top speed, while technical Speed Zones reward control and cornering.

Before changing cars or downloading a tune:

• Check the required class, country, manufacturer or car type.
• Identify the surface and weather conditions.
• Decide whether the route rewards speed, handling or both.
• Choose a vehicle you can drive consistently.
• Test it before spending heavily on upgrades.

Upgrades, Builds and Tunes

Upgrades change a car’s components and Performance Index. A build is the complete combination of those upgrades, while tuning adjusts how the upgraded vehicle behaves.

A useful build should match a specific purpose rather than simply raising the performance rating. Adding power without improving tires, braking or control can make a car more difficult to drive.

When using a shared tune, check that it matches:

• The required performance class.
• The intended race or challenge type.
• The road surface.
• The weather or season.
• Your preferred balance between stability and responsiveness.

Treat tune codes as starting points. If a highly rated tune feels uncomfortable, try another setup that better suits your driving style.

Reward and Exclusive Cars

Some vehicles are earned through campaign progression, Festival Playlist rewards and special activities rather than purchased directly. Their availability may depend on completing an event, reaching a points target or participating during a particular Series or season.

Before spending credits on a vehicle, check whether it is available as a current reward. For time-limited Festival Playlist cars, confirm the points requirement and closing date so you can prioritize the necessary challenges.

Forza Factory car guides will identify:

• How the vehicle is obtained.
• Whether availability is permanent or time-limited.
• The required activity or points target.
• Recommended uses for the car.
• Relevant builds or tune codes when available.

Aftermarket Cars

Aftermarket Cars are secondhand vehicles that can be encountered while exploring Japan. Their availability reflects your current campaign progression, so the selection develops as you advance.

Inspect the vehicle and its cost before buying. A car being available through the Aftermarket does not automatically make it essential, especially when credits may be more useful for event cars, upgrades or Player Houses.

Rare and unusual vehicles can appear through this system, making it worth checking as you explore and progress.

Treasure Cars and Barn Finds

Treasure Cars are discovered by following photo clues obtained while exploring Japan. Study the landscape, roads and landmarks in the image, then search the corresponding area to locate the hidden vehicle.

Barn Find rumors become available through Discover Japan and Stamp progression. If a clue or rumor has not appeared, continue completing Journal activities and check again later.
