Stamps and the Collection Journal
The Collection Journal records your progress across Discover Japan. Activities such as photography, collecting cars, completing stories and exploring the map contribute toward Stamps. Check the Journal regularly to understand what you have discovered, see what remains and claim available rewards.
Stamp progress is separate from Horizon Festival Wristbands. You can focus on exploration, structured Festival racing or move freely between both paths.
Earning additional Stamps can unlock rewards and new opportunities across Japan, including Player Houses, customizable garages and clues leading to hidden cars.
Regions and Map Discovery
apan contains different regions with their own roads, landmarks and activities. Exploring naturally reveals more of the map and creates opportunities to find Journal entries that are easy to miss when relying only on fast travel.
Use the World Map filters when the number of icons becomes difficult to scan. Select the activity type you need instead of searching through every visible event.
For efficient exploration:
- Drive unfamiliar roads instead of always using fast travel.
- Check nearby icons before leaving a region.
- Use landmarks and major roads to orient yourself.
- Review the Collection Journal after completing several activities.
- Return later when new clues or activities become available.
Photography and Collectibles
Photography and collectibles are an important part of Discover Japan. Mascots, landmarks, vehicles and other subjects can become entries in the Collection Journal when you find or photograph them.
When searching for a specific discovery:
- Read the Journal clue carefully before opening the map.
- Use the relevant map filter to reduce visual clutter.
- Look for recognizable landmarks, road shapes and terrain.
- Check multiple elevations in cities and mountainous areas.
- Use Photo Mode to confirm subjects and preserve discoveries in your Journal.
Some discoveries are intended to be found gradually. You do not need to clear every region before continuing the campaign.
Treasure Cars and Barn Finds
Exploring new roads and locations can reveal photo clues for Treasure Cars. Study the clue, identify the surrounding landscape and search the indicated area to find the hidden vehicle. Once discovered, it can be restored and added to your collection.
Barn Finds use a related discovery process, but their rumors become available as you make further Stamp progress. If a vehicle clue has not appeared yet, continue completing Discover Japan activities and check the Collection Journal again later.
When following a vehicle clue:
- Compare the background with roads, coastlines, buildings and terrain on the map.
- Search the surrounding area instead of concentrating on one exact point.
- Check whether additional Stamp progress is required.
- Use a suitable vehicle when exploring difficult off-road terrain.
- Review your car collection after the discovery has been completed.
Stories and Jobs
Horizon Stories and jobs provide structured activities outside the main Festival racing path. They introduce people, places and experiences from across Japan while contributing to Discover Japan progress.
Jobs can also provide useful credits while encouraging you to visit areas you may otherwise overlook. Complete them alongside nearby Journal activities to make each journey more productive.
You do not have to earn the highest possible rating immediately. Finish an activity first, then return later with more experience if you want to improve your result.
Touge, Street Racing and Car Meets
Discover Japan includes activities beyond official Horizon Festival Events. Touge Battles and Street Races let you use a wider range of cars and experience different styles of driving across Japan.
Car Meets provide social starting points where you can view other players’ cars, join or form a Convoy and begin open-world activities together.
Use these activities when you want:
- Less structured progression than Festival Events.
- More freedom in your vehicle choice.
- Mountain-road or night-time racing.
- Opportunities to meet other players.
- A change of pace from collecting and photography.
